Though not technically “wild,” these horses are the descendants of horses once owned by residents of the Waipio Valley who were let free before a tsunami in the 1970s. These feral or free horses travel the valley, have plenty to eat in the lush jungle, and a very people-friendly (the tourists feed them apples and carrots regularly.) This is a video of a small herd teaching a foal to run in an open pasture. It’s really sweet.
