Big Island Hawaii: Volcanoes National Park, Part 1
Volcanoes National Park is the main natural attraction in the Big Island, thanks to the Kilauea volcano, that is continually erupting since 1983. There is a road around the crater, although partially closed, allowing scenic views along its length. The main point of volcanic activity is the smaller Halema’uma’u crater, where a red glow can be seen at night. The slopes of the crater are covered with tropical vegetation and flowers. The bottom of the crater can be reached from the Kilauea Iki Crater overlook .
