Do you think it's worth it to take a guided tour of Waimea Canyon or just go to see it on our own? I don't really like the tour bus experience so much but we weren't planning on renting a car and so I don't know if it's worth it to rent a car just for one day.

Aloha Andrea,

Personally I prefer to be in control and have my own car. That way you can stop and see what you want to, when you want to, and at your own pace. Obviously many people look at it differently though since the tour buses are always full  Wink

You can probably rent a car for much cheaper than you'd pay for the tours, so if cost in an issue I'd go with the car rental if there are more than one person.

Here's the ultimate though...go visit Waimea Canyon by car and then take a helicopter tour and see it from above. You'll be amazed!

Go to this page and click on the link for "Air Tours"

I think that would be your best bet overall!

It depends on the interest, but with the people you want. That would be great.

i prefer to go on the tour bus because its smoother. You don't have to focus on the drive you can focus more on the scenery and let someone else worry about driving. Plus its fun to have the tour guide explain the history behind the tour.
