Located on the tip of Poipu Point, at the southernmost
point of Kauai, Castle Resort's Makahuena at Poipu is
a very beautiful oceanfront property where guests can
enjoy both sunrises and sunsets and during the winter
months, whales migrating to Maui.
There are even benches at the edge of the bluff for watching
the spectacular sights.
There are 79 units in two and three story plantation-style
wood buildings. Like many condos in the islands, there
are no elevators, but it is always worth walking up the
stairs for the view alone. The all-suite Makahuena at
Poipu offers beautifully furnished one, two and three
bedroom suites. The very spacious condo units feature
full furnished kitchens, including microwave, full size
refrigerator/freezer, oven/stove, coffee maker, toaster,
blender and dishwasher. Room amenities include ceiling
fans, Cable TV, VCR, washer/dryer, hair dryer and more.
There is a swimming pool, sun deck, jet spa, tennis courts
and barbeque grills. While there is no on-site restaurant,
there is a good selection of shops and restaurants in
the nearly historic town of Koloa Town and in the Poipu
Beach area. Or, you can simply
buy some things to grill and have a night picnic sitting
on one of those benches, watching the waves, counting
stars or just enjoying the beauty that is Kauai.
Do stop in the town of Lihue
at one of the major grocery stores for any groceries you
might want during your stay before driving to Poipu.
Due to it's rocky coast, there is no beach access, but
just a mile away is what is considered to be one of America's
best beaches, Poipu Beach. There is a protected area for
safe swimming and at the other end, the perfect spot for
surfing or boogie boarding. Between the two points is
a great place for snorkeling - in other words, this is
a perfect beach. The Makahuena at Poipu is also within
walking distance to Keoniloa Bay and Shipwreck Beach to
the east, both worth visiting.
This is the ideal condo for families and for those who
don't require constant nightlife. If you want glitter,
action, crowds, noise and constant excitement, Waikiki
is the place to be, but if you want peace and quiet, time
to be together, to share, then it would be hard to find
a lovelier condo than Makahuena at Poipu.
