The Outrigger Reef on the Beach has an ideal location
on the west end of Waikiki Beach, considered the quieter
side of Waikiki and close to the military's beautiful
Ft. DeRussey
Park. This is one of the larger
of the well-known locally owned Outrigger Hotels with
858 air conditioned rooms, many of which have a partial
or full ocean view.
The standard rooms are rather small with small bathrooms
and no lanais, and are in the process of being renovated.
If the size, view and dcor are important to you, opt
for a partial or full ocean view. Amenities include alarm
clock/radio, cable TV, with pay for view movies and Nintendo,
coffee/tea maker with complimentary coffee or tea, direct
dial telephone with data port and voice mail, hair dryer,
in-room safe, mini refrigerator and much more.
There are three ocean front restaurants on the property,
including the inexpensive Chef's Hut and the Shorebird
Restaurant & Beach Bar where you can grill your own
food and later in the evening sip on a Mai Tai while listening
to some great contemporary Hawaiian music. For a memorable
evening, make a reservation at the Outrigger Reef's fine
dining restaurant, Ocean House, specializing in Pacific
Rim cuisine with marvelous ocean views and terrific food
in casually elegant surroundings. There is also room service
available from 7 am to 10 pm daily and a Starbucks on
the property for those who are early risers and need a
quick cup of coffee before taking a stroll down the near
deserted beach.
Property amenities include the beautiful Serenity Spa,
where for a fee you can enjoy a variety of massages, facials
and various beauty treatments. The Hans
Hedermann
Surf School
offers an expert staff of trained
surf instructors who can help you get up on the board
for an experience you'll long remember. Outrigger Reef
also features a very reasonably priced Catamaran ride
where you can see the Waikiki coastline
with the Ko'olau Mountains in
the background for some unbelievable photos.
The Outrigger Reef has a large swimming pool with poolside
bar and waiter service. The lobby is not only home to
a number of retail shops, but also a daily variety of
lessons and activities. There is a Fitness Center with weights, treadmills
and step machines, or of course, you could just jog down
the beach toward Diamond Head for
an even more satisfying exercise routine.
Three really great complimentary amenities the Outrigger
Reef on the Beach offers include the Island Explorer Kit,
Postcards from Paradise (3 beautiful postcards per room
that the hotel will mail for you at no cost) and their
lovely twice a week Hawaiian Wedding Vow Renewal ceremony.
With a minimum 3 night stay, every child from the ages
5 to 10 receive a complimentary Island Explorer Kit that
includes a 2 part workbook, Friends of the Reef Adventure
Guide and Let's Explore Hawaii Guide, backpack, sunglasses,
pen and binoculars. The Guides explain how to conduct
ecologically-safe explorations and much more.
The Hawaiian Wedding Vow Renewal ceremony is held every
Tuesday and Friday morning at 8 am on the beach. The nondenominational
Hawaiian ceremony is conducted by a practicing Kahuna
(priest) who welcomes couples with a traditional Hawaiian
chant, leading them to the water's edge to be honored
with a hula and serenaded with Hawaiian song. Couples
are blessed with a sprinkling of sea water then recite
their vows in Hawaiian, followed by the traditional Hawaiian
wedding song with hula.
Note:Outrigger Reef on the Beach lobby renovations
will commence on September 1, 2006 and run through August
31, 2007. The repositioning of the Outrigger Reef requires
a completely new lobby, front desk, entrance/porte
cochere, restaurant and shops. The project will take
place in phases throughout the year long period. Outrigger
will do their best to minimize and inconvenience to their
guests.
