Hawaii – United States
Hawaii is the newest of the 50 US states (August 21, 1959), and is the only US state made up entirely of islands. It is the northernmost island group in Polynesia, occupying most of an archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean, southwest of the continental United States, southeast of Japan, and northeast of Australia. Hawaii’s natural and diverse scenery, warm tropical climate, abundance of public beaches and oceanic surrounding, and active volcanoes make it a popular destination for tourists, surfers, biologists, and volcanologists alike. Due to its mid-Pacific location, Hawaii has many North American and Asian influences along with its own vibrant native culture. Hawaii has over a million permanent residents along with many visitors and US military personnel. Its capital is Honolulu on the island of Oʻahu. The state encompasses nearly the entire volcanic Hawaiian Island chain, which comprises hundreds of islands spread over 1500 miles (2400 km). At the southeastern end of the archipelago, the eight “main islands” are (from the northwest to southeast) Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Kahoʻolawe, Maui, and Hawaiʻi. The last is by far the largest and is often called “The Big Island” to avoid confusion with the state as a whole. The archipelago is physiographically and ethnologically part of the Polynesian subregion of Oceania. After Alaska, Florida, and California, Hawaii has the fourth-longest coastline in the United States, which is approximately 750 miles (1210 …
“Mokulua Islands” The Hawaii Series-Conservation through Art
The Hawaii Series- Conservation through Art The Hawaii series is dedicated to sharing the natural beauty of Hawaii as well as connecting art and conservation. Most of the inspiration for my art comes from the natural world, so in return I am giving a portion of the proceeds of all sales of prints and originals to land conservation, specifically in the area from which the series is inspired from, (in this case, Hawaii). This painting is of the Mokulua Islands, off the windward (east) coast of Oahu. The islands are nicknamed the “twin islands”, or “the Moks”, and have been a favorite for photographers for many years since they are so unique and close to shore. They are about 3/4 mile off beautiful Lanikai Beach or Kailua Beach. The islands are are part of the Hawaii State Seabird Sanctuary and you can kayak there as a day trip and hike around.

Bill learned this song off of the Gabby Pahinui Hawaiian Band album that included Gabby’s sons, such as Bla, Martin, Philip, and Cyril. Ry Cooder was also on that album produced on the Panini label in the early 1970s. It is a great song!

Twin Falls on Maui, Hawaii – August 2010
Here we are at Twin Falls in Maui, Hawaii on August 27th, 2010. Today we did the Road to Hana, a crazy drive full of sharp curves and steep drops. Twin Falls was our first stop on the journey. We had to walk up a huge trail to get to the last waterfall. Of course it started pouring rain, making it way more difficult. Nonetheless, it was a cool place to see!!
