Kaimana Beach Hotel (The New Otani )

One of the best kept secrets on Oahu, the oceanfront New OtaniKaimana Beach Hotel is located at the Diamond Head end of Waikiki. Across the street is Kapiolani Park, 200 acres filled with walking, biking and jogging paths, athletic fields, tennis courts, the Zoo the beautifully renovated Bandstand for Sunday Concerts and the outdoor concert venue, The Waikiki Shell. On the opposite side of the 125-room boutique hotel is the Pacific Ocean and San Souci Beach, one of the best in the area, frequented mainly by local residents. Although technically in Waikiki, the Kaimana offers their guests a quiet escape from the crowds, yet is only a short walk to the excitement of Waikiki at night.

The rooms are beautifully decorated in soft pastels with private lanais and the views, whether of the park, Waikiki or the ocean are beautiful. All rooms include a welcome amenity, daily newspaper, voice mail, mini refrigerator, data port on phones, cable TV with pay-for-view movies, hair dryer, high speed internet access (fee), in-room safe (fee), bath amenities and room service.

The open-air Hau Tree Lanai is a wonderful restaurant, popular with both residents and the hotel's guests. Located on the beach side, you'll dine alfresco under the ancient Hau Trees, where Robert Louis Stevenson spent his time writing. Flickering torches and candlelight, fabulous food and breathtaking views makes this one of the most romantic spots on Oahu.

The Kaimana also is home to The Miyako, one of the finest Japanese restaurants outside of Tokyo, featuring both Western-style seating as well as the traditional tatami rooms, with prices that are quite reasonable. The perfect spot for a before dinner cocktail is the Sunset Lanai Lounge, one level about the Hau Tree, where you can sip on a Mai Tai and watch the sun set.

This is a charming, beautifully run and maintained hotel. The service is impeccable; the location is perfect for attending a concert at The Shell, or to watch a free movie on the beach at the Waikiki end of Kapiolani Park. Walk to Diamond Head entrance and climb up the inside for fantastic views; stroll around the park for a relaxing workout; snorkel right outside your hotel room; or dine at the Hau Tree and soak up the ambiance for memories that will last you forever.

As of May 1, 2006 all rooms at the Kaimana Beach Hotel will be nonsmoking.
