We found the Hawaii Hostel – a very basic place to stay but clean and inexpensive for Singapore. Only $35 a night and we even had air conditioning. During our three-day tour of the city, we utilized the cheap Singapore Airlines hop-on-hop-off bus. We started off on Wednesday night at the upscale Suntec Plaza shopping Centre. Next day we started our real sightseeing in Little India. The Sri Veeramakaliaman Hindu temple was so ornate. We walked along Arab Street and saw two amazing mosques. We stopped for lunch in the Shaw Leisure Gallery mall then headed back on the bus to the Old Boat Quay. We walked along the waterfront to get a better look at the Merlion and the Theatres on the Bay. We went to see the Lord of the Rings movie that evening – which was a bit surreal as there were three lines of subtitles in different languages on the screen at any given time. The next day was spent in Chinatown and at the Botanical Gardens and Orchid Gardens. The orchids were stunning! We even had a close encounter with a snake in a gazebo. In the evening we found this great place to each called ‘Food More’.
