Lava finally reaches the Pacific Ocean at Kamokuna after a seven mile journey from the Pu’u O’o vent in Kilauea Volcano. A small black sand beach is formed when the surf quenches the hot lava. Something you see ONCE in a Hundred years!
The last Venus transit till 2117 and who knows what the world will look like when that happens! This is footage both in the visible and H-alpha wavelength of the Venus transit of 5th June 2012. I watched it from near the power substation for the Keck Observatory, about one vertical mile below the summit (although I was still at an altitude of ~ 10 000 ft, ~ 2miles). This whole trip was put together at incredibly short notice. Indeed this was my first attempt at solar timelapse and my first attempt to use the H-Alpha telescope to do it. Knowing nothing about such things, it’s usually my reckoning that it takes about 3 attempts to get good at this sort of thing. If I had know more about H-alpha telescopes, I would have certainly spent more on one. The solar scope I got cost about 1000 bux (in europe where i was at the time), but if I had really known what I was doing I should have probably spent 2-3x that amount. However even if I had known that, it was not clear I would be able to buy such a telescope in time, and even if I could, when I travelled to Hawaii, virtually ALL of my weight allowance was tied up in equipment (plus a change of underwear). Even at that, I borrowed a tracking mount from a local and very well equipped astronomer friend (MANY thanks Chris) without which this simply wouldnt have been possible. I’ve got to say that given the constraints that I had (inexperience, lack of proper kit, lack of transport ability lack of time etc etc) I’m actually very happy …

Mystery Booms: Could They Be Supernatural? 2012 HD
Life goes on in Clintonville — as does the search for the source of the mysterious noises. And Clintonville residents are speculating. The marquee outside of Calvary Apostolic Church reads, “God is shaking our city. Let’s have a revival!” So as some speculate and city leaders search, some residents say not knowing the cause has them on edge. “They had a test on the radio, or on the TV the other day and I was getting scrambled to grab the kids and go,” said Heather Fletcher, a mother of two. Fletcher says she has trouble sleeping at night, wondering what could happen to her, or her children. “I kind of don’t want to be here at all,” said Fletcher. “We’re still waiting for answers. I don’t know what to think?” City Administrator Lisa Kuss says reports of the booming from Tuesday night to Wednesday diminished compared to previous nights. There were only two major events from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. One event happened at around 8 pm that fielded about 10 calls. A second event happened shortly before 5 am which brought about 25 calls. Kuss says most theories involving manmade causes have been ruled out. Kilauea Volcano Erupts – Dramatic Video
Kilauea is the youngest and southeastern most volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii. Topographically Kilauea appears as only a bulge on the southeastern flank of Mauna Loa, and so for many years Kilauea was thought to be a mere satellite of its giant neighbor, not a separate volcano. However, research over the past few decades shows clearly that Kilauea has its own magma-plumbing system, extending to the surface from more than 60 km deep in the earth. Hawaiian Meaning The Hawaiian name “Kilauea” means “spewing” or “much spreading,” apparently in reference to the lava flows that it erupts. Eruptions have been Continuous since January 3, 1983. It is estimated that the first eruption of Kilauea has between 300000 and 600000 years ago.

Drive of the Sun Time Lapse
The journey begins in the clouds 10000 feet from sea level and descends down Haleakalā’s volcanic winding roads. The landscape changes from volcanic rocks to lush green trees as the vehicle twist and turns down the road. Watch the shadows and sun play to the beat of the beautiful music of Blue Hawaii’s “Lilac”. Early Hawaiians applied the name Haleakalā (“house of the sun”) to the general mountain. In Hawaiian folklore, the depression at the summit of Haleakalā was home to the grandmother of the demigod Māui. According to the legend, Māui’s grandmother helped him capture the sun and force it to slow its journey across the sky in order to lengthen the day. Haleakalā’ Volcano was thought to have last erupted around 1790. The time lapse video consists of over 5000 pictures using two Gopro cameras. Shot after sunrise.
