Mystery Force Shakes Hawaii Island 2012

A noisy, unexplained shaking in the Puna area of Hawaii Island remains a mystery at this time, but it certainly has the area talking. A number of people in a triangular area between Seaview Estates, Leilani Estates, and Black Sand Beach Subdivision report hearing a thunder-like sound, or an explosion, and feeling the ground shake around 9 am on Wednesday. John Drummond, the acting administrator of the Hawaii County Civil Defense, says that the incident cannot be explained at this point in time. Drummond says that he spoke to operators of Puna Geothermal Venture, the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, and personnel on the ground… no one has an explanation. One theory being considered is some sort of sonic boom, although who or what could have produced such an effect is presently unknown. Something you see ONCE in a Hundred years!

The last Venus transit till 2117 and who knows what the world will look like when that happens! This is footage both in the visible and H-alpha wavelength of the Venus transit of 5th June 2012. I watched it from near the power substation for the Keck Observatory, about one vertical mile below the summit (although I was still at an altitude of ~ 10 000 ft, ~ 2miles). This whole trip was put together at incredibly short notice. Indeed this was my first attempt at solar timelapse and my first attempt to use the H-Alpha telescope to do it. Knowing nothing about such things, it’s usually my reckoning that it takes about 3 attempts to get good at this sort of thing. If I had know more about H-alpha telescopes, I would have certainly spent more on one. The solar scope I got cost about 1000 bux (in europe where i was at the time), but if I had really known what I was doing I should have probably spent 2-3x that amount. However even if I had known that, it was not clear I would be able to buy such a telescope in time, and even if I could, when I travelled to Hawaii, virtually ALL of my weight allowance was tied up in equipment (plus a change of underwear). Even at that, I borrowed a tracking mount from a local and very well equipped astronomer friend (MANY thanks Chris) without which this simply wouldnt have been possible. I’ve got to say that given the constraints that I had (inexperience, lack of proper kit, lack of transport ability lack of time etc etc) I’m actually very happy

Kilauea Volcano Erupts – Dramatic Video

Kilauea is the youngest and southeastern most volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii. Topographically Kilauea appears as only a bulge on the southeastern flank of Mauna Loa, and so for many years Kilauea was thought to be a mere satellite of its giant neighbor, not a separate volcano. However, research over the past few decades shows clearly that Kilauea has its own magma-plumbing system, extending to the surface from more than 60 km deep in the earth. Hawaiian Meaning The Hawaiian name “Kilauea” means “spewing” or “much spreading,” apparently in reference to the lava flows that it erupts. Eruptions have been Continuous since January 3, 1983. It is estimated that the first eruption of Kilauea has between 300000 and 600000 years ago.

Rational Station – Episode 02: Playing Well with Others

In which how religious folks are being selfish, irrational, paranoid, and unreasonable with regards to morality and government is explained by Sandra, our heroine. Sorry it took me so long to get this second episode out, folks. I encountered a hard drive problem (which turned out to be a loose connection, thankfully), a couple of 3D model malfunctions, a complete overhaul of the scene lighting, multiple recording sessions (none of which came out quite right ANYWAY), and I also took a week off to go to Hawaii (I’m not sorry about that part!). There’s no telling when Episode 03 will come out; I have a number of projects on the spike and I’ve been neglecting them to get this done. We’ll see.

Volcano / Earthquake Watch May 23-28

Targeting CH450 and specifically 6-8 Degrees South Latitude for a possible 6.9 magnitude earthquake. locations that best fit the profile for this event are : Solomon Islands, Southern Regions of Indonesia or Congo/Tanzania Northern hemisphere watch could produce a 6.5 magnitude earthquake during this watch. Areas 36-40 Degrees North Latitude that could be in play for this possible event are : Italy, Greece, Hokkaido Japan or Northern California. Radiation/Ionospheric anomaly’s indicate 20 Degrees North Latitude could receive possible seismic events.
