USS Seaviper

September, 1944. Fresh from liberty on the island of Hawaii, Horatio Culpepper, Captain of the USS SEAVIPER – one of the Navy’s wolf pack submarines, receives an order from Vice Admiral Stallerman, along with top-secret information from President Roosevelt. The Germans and the Japanese are discovered on an island together. The Germans have converted a mine laying U-234 to a long range submarine. The Germans are transporting deadly cargo across the Pacific to deliver to the Japanese. USS SEAVIPER must abort the enemies plan before it’s too late. If you can say it, you can play it” … These are the famous words of Jaqui’s first drum teacher, Babatunde Olatunji, and also the foundation for all of her teachings. In the Drum For Joy!™ workshops, you learn the language of the djembe drum, basic hand drum technique, and how to make your drum sing. Jaqui presents the drum songs in a way that make it fun and easy to learn. By building and playing drum compositions with all of their parts, (rhythms, breaks, solos and vocals), you experience the magic of music making and the joy of drumming in a group! Jaqui MacMillan first found her passion for African drumming in the early 1980’s and over a span of thirteen years, studied with numerous master drummers including Babatunde Olatunji, Mamady Keita, Sam Turner, Carlos Moore, and Mahiri Fadjimba Keita at the Tam Tam Mandingue School in Washington, DC In 1999 and 2001, she attended the Drum Circle Facilitators Playshop and the Facilitators Mentor Training in Hawaii with Arthur Hull and is a founding board member of the Drum Circle Facilitators Guild (DCFG), an organization dedicated to professionalism in the field of drum circle facilitation.
