Intro Maui, Hawaii – Blue Hawaiian Helicopters

Year after year, readers of the top international travel magazines vote Maui “The World’s Best Island,” in large part because Maui boasts sights that satisfy the most demanding adventurers. Blue Hawaiian Helicopters was founded on Maui in 1985, and no one knows Maui better than Blue. In this video you’ll see just a few of this amazing island’s incomparable sights as only Blue can show them to you: the razor-like cliffs and cascading waterfalls of the West Maui Mountains, monumental Haleakala Crater, the lush emerald Hana Rainforest, historic Iao Needle, and more.

Drive of the Sun Time Lapse

The journey begins in the clouds 10000 feet from sea level and descends down Haleakalā’s volcanic winding roads. The landscape changes from volcanic rocks to lush green trees as the vehicle twist and turns down the road. Watch the shadows and sun play to the beat of the beautiful music of Blue Hawaii’s “Lilac”. Early Hawaiians applied the name Haleakalā (“house of the sun”) to the general mountain. In Hawaiian folklore, the depression at the summit of Haleakalā was home to the grandmother of the demigod Māui. According to the legend, Māui’s grandmother helped him capture the sun and force it to slow its journey across the sky in order to lengthen the day. Haleakalā’ Volcano was thought to have last erupted around 1790. The time lapse video consists of over 5000 pictures using two Gopro cameras. Shot after sunrise. Maui Hawaii

We hope you enjoy this compilation of photos taken on the island of Maui in 1979, 1982, and 1986. Included are photos of the West Maui Mountains, a sugar cane burn, the Iao Valley and Needle, Kapalua, North Maui, Lahaina, the Pioneer Inn, the Banyan Tree, the Carthaginian, the Jodo Mission, Kaanapali, Hana and O’heo Gulch (AKA the 7 Sacred Pools), Haleakala, and rainbows and sunsets. Also included were a few shots from a sailing trip to Lanai. Molokai can also be seen in the distance in some shots. Pay close attention to the Iao Valley and the profile of John F. Kennedy in a rock formation. It’s a must see in the Iao Valley. Many of the pineapple fields photographed north of Kapalua, and in Lanai, are gone due to development. The pictures of Haleakala were taken by John’s mother using an antique box camera. Aloha! Please stop by and visit my blog: chriszimmer.blogspot.com
